henhouse prowlers

Chicago, US

BLUEGRASS AMBASSADORS

Founded over 15 years ago with the simple desire to play original and powerful bluegrass, this quartet now finds themselves at the intersection of performance, diplomacy and education. The Prowlers have now been to more than 25 countries across the globe, working with the U.S. State Department and under their own nonprofit, Bluegrass Ambassadors - incorporating music from Africa, Asia, the Middle East and more into their already robust repertoire of unique traditional American music.

On stage, in workshops and wherever they are, the Henhouse Prowlers find and spread the commonality we share as human beings through the universal language of music. On stage, the group's electrifying performances give audiences a sense of how much they love what they do; while on record, the band manages to explore their collective life experiences through songwriting and intricate instrumentation. While bluegrass is the undeniable foundation of the Prowlers music, the band manages to bend and squeeze the traditional form into a sound all their own.

Pert near

sandstone

Minneapolis/St. Paul, US

It was roughly a decade ago that Pert Near Sandstone first gathered around a microphone in a Minneapolis basement. The winding road they've traveled over the years makes it all the more meaningful for the band to come full circle on their dazzling new release, 'Discovery Of Honey,' which finds them once again recording in a basement and reuniting with founding member Ryan Young, who's spent the past seven years touring the world playing fiddle with bluegrass stars Trampled By Turtles.

The chemistry has been abundantly clear from the very first days of Pert Near Sandstone, when the band—whose current lineup features Sipe and Kniebel, founding guitarist J Lenz, bassist Justin Bruhn, and clog & fiddle player Matt Cartier—burst onto the American roots music scene in a flurry of fiddling, picking, and stomping.
Their live performances are currently described as "a frenzied string shredding spree that takes audiences under its spell."

RED herring

Rotterdam, NL

Red Herring is knee deep in the roots tradition, while firmly rooted in modern times. Whether it be folk, bluegrass, country, or Americana, the Herrings can make their home in any of these styles. Red Herring shares musical stories, age-old traditional tunes, original compositions, flaming improvized solo breaks, intense vocal harmonies, and an open and honest atmosphere in which audience members can feel free to be emotionally moved or just have fun.

What started out in 2012 as a duo with Arthur Deighton and Joram Peeters quickly became a trio after they asked Loes van Schaijk to be a guest musician on their first studio album, 'The Mountain Valley Sessions' (2013). At the time of their second album, 'Live At Volver' (2014), the three musicians and their instruments — including an 1.80 meters long double bass and a 2 metres tall fiddle player — got around in a Ford Focus. But who would have thought that they would be able to fit a fourth multi-instrumentalist into that car? As had happened with Loes before him, Dutch bluegrass legend Paul van Vlodrop was originally hired as a guest musician for Red Herring’s third album 'Here To Distract You' (2017) but decided to stick around. Now that’s what you call a good catch, right?

HANNY HILL &

BLUE NIGHT

Cologne, DE

The audience will notice after a few measures the years of experience gathered in this band. Their music just breathes the authentic bluegrass sound, as if they were born in the Blue Ridge Mountains. No surprise though; Some of them have dedicated over thirty years to playing bluegrass.

Negative Nancy

and

the moodswings

Turnhout, BE

Masks off, mingling musical and other roots, kickin’ up heels, learning and unlearing, fumble and flame. This fairly new band, “Negative Nancy and The Moodswings”, presents their own story in original songs, traditionals and covers. Are you ready for a soaked in sense, bluegrass-fueled, pure (we leave perfection to the gods and other imaginary friends) and vivid acoustic experience?

Springtime 2017 these six musicians joined up and started building a repertoire and a sound. While steadily, stormily and hungrily producing their own songs, they can’t help themselves taking up bluegrass tunes they love. A close listener will uncover their different backgrounds (Irish folk, rockabilly, bluegrass, lifegrass, ...) shimmering through in their music.

Now they are ready; are you?
